Data Horizons is a private company that provides consultancy, software and professional services in respect of governance and privacy, among others. We do not knowingly attempt to solicit or receive information from children.

We understand that you are aware of and care about your own personal privacy interests, and we take that seriously. This Privacy Notice describes Data Horizons’ policies and practices regarding its collection and use of your personal data and sets forth your privacy rights. We recognize that information privacy is an ongoing responsibility, and so we will from time to time update this Privacy Notice as we undertake new personal data practices or adopt new privacy policies.

How we collect and use (process) your personal information

Data Horizons only collects personal information about its customers and suppliers. This information is limited to the kinds of information that can be found on a business card: first name, last name, job title, employer name, work address, work email, and phone number(s). Where company information is collected directly for purposes of concluding a contract, such information is stored securely and is not used for any other purpose.

 

Use of Cookies

This website does not make use of any third-party cookies to collect your information or track your web activity. No information collected on our website is shared with a third-party except under strictly controlled circumstances.

 

Use of Data Horizons Website

As is true of most other websites, Data Horizons’ website collects certain information automatically and stores it in log files. The information may include internet protocol (IP) addresses, the region or general location where your computer or device is accessing the internet, browser type, operating system and other usage information about the use of Data Horizons’ website, including a history of the pages you view on our site. We use this information to help us design our site to better suit our users’ needs. We may also use your IP address to help diagnose problems with our server and to administer our website, analyse trends, track visitor movements, and gather broad demographic information that assists us in identifying visitor preferences.

 

When and how we share information with others

Information about your purchases and consulting engagements with you are maintained in documents and files which are kept in secure computing environments located in the South Africa. Where you purchase a software product from Data Horizons, you will be required to engage with the Vendor and either directly, or by Data Horizons acting as your local supplier of the product, provide certain information to the vendor as required to complete the purchase and support of the products(s).

Where information is shared with third parties, they do not have access to any personal information stored by Data Horizons and only limited contact information (such as Name, Surname, Email Address and Contact Number) are made available where there are strict agreements in place between Data Horizons and the third party operating on their behalf. These agreements prohibit the use of such personal information for any purpose other than for completing the agreed activities described on behalf of Data Horizons. On occasion, Data Horizons may engage third parties to mail information to you or set up appointments. In such cases, you have the right to opt-out of any further communication.

 

Transferring personal data across regional boundaries

Data Horizons has its headquarters in the South Africa. Information we collect from you will be processed in South Africa, and by using Data Horizons’ services you acknowledge and consent to the processing of your data in the South Africa.

Where the supplier or vendor of a software product that you purchase is located in the U.S.A., Canada or Europe, only the personal information required to complete the purchase and support of the product will be provided to the vendor. In most cases, you will be providing this information directly to the vendor as the licensing agreements will be between yourselves and the vendor, with Data Horizons acting as a reseller.

Data Horizons collects and transfers to the U.S.A, Canada or Europe personal data only:

  • with your consent;
  • to perform a contract with you; or
  • to fulfil a compelling legitimate interest of Data Horizons in a manner that does not outweigh your rights and freedoms.

Data Horizons endeavours to apply suitable safeguards to protect the privacy and security of your personal data and to use it only consistent with your relationship with Data Horizons and the practices described in this Privacy Statement. Data Horizons also enters into data processing agreements and model clauses with its vendors whenever feasible and appropriate.

 

Data subject rights

The South African Protection of Personal Information Act and other African privacy regulations provide certain rights for data subjects. These rights can be found on the websites of the local Commissioners for the applicable privacy law.

 

Access to your information (PAIA)

Security of your information

To help protect the privacy of data and personally identifiable information you transmit through use of this Site, we maintain physical, technical and administrative safeguards. We update and test our security technology on an ongoing basis. We restrict access to your personal data to those employees who need to know that information to provide benefits or services to you. In addition, we train our employees about the importance of confidentiality and maintaining the privacy and security of your information. We commit to taking appropriate disciplinary measures to enforce our employees’ privacy responsibilities.

 

Data storage and retention

Your personal data is stored by Data Horizons on its computers and servers, and on the servers of the cloud-based database management services which Data Horizons may engage, located in the South Africa.

Data Horizons retains data for the duration of the customer’s or supplier’s business relationship with Data Horizons and for a period of time thereafter to comply with any legal obligations, to allow customers to query any historical information, to analyse the data for Data Horizons’ own operations, and for historical and archiving purposes.
